First of all: This guy is up for auction on ebay! Check it out! [link] Though it doesn't say so on the ebay listing, I will ship worldwide; the cost for shipping would just be a bit more. :}
This is an image that's been over a year in the making.. sort of. In july-august of 2011 I tried to do an oil painting of a white horse head for my sister...tried and tried and tried and nearly sent myself to hospital from lack of sleep/eating/drinking etc. etc. I hallucinated that daleks were living in various shapes and colors and that river song and the doctor were having an argument about how the eye was painted. Yeah. It was that bad. I eventually gave up, but I'm the most stubborn mule you'll ever meet, so I thought "hey, I'll just use a different picture of the same theme".. another horse head...a different medium. I got permission from to use this photo [link] and I tried to paint it digitally. Tried and tried and tried... still failed... a couple months ago I tried again, same photo, but with colored pencils, a lot of turpenoid, and some smooth watercolor paper...yeah, failed that one too. So, about a week ago, I dug my heels in and decided to try one more time. I'm supposed to be taking a break from art, but for whatever reason I just really needed to prove to myself that I COULD still draw... I DID still have it in me, somewhere, to remember how to create... so, yeah. Here we go. Just black colored pencils on some vellum bristol paper. It's not perfect, and I didn't get every detail correct... but I think that's okay. I finished it, it's done, I won. Hah!
Many thanks to for letting me drool all over and use her gorgeous photos. :}
(oh, and some of the weird little blobs in the black background aren't really there.. that's a scanner thing. )
There is something a bit more mysterious about your drawing than the original picture. Maybe it's because its black and white. I love it, very well done So, once you got started on this one, how long did it take? I couldnt imagine, whew!
Happy Holidays!
