First up:
I had a great response to my last journal about looking for commissions.. thanks guys!  But they're closed again now.. and I shall try my hardest to keep up without overly frustrating anyone :}

Second:  Was looking for advice with some computer things..
a very long, LONG story short - i somehow managed to get the conficker worm loose in my system and ended up having to reformat and reinstall windows and the whole nine yards.  Now, I had the majority of my art backed up to an external hard drive before any of this happened, and what wasn't on that (because it soon became unreadable due to the worm) I burned to cd before I bombed my hard drive.

Now that everything's back, neither the x-drive or the cd's seem to be readable.
I am SO bummed.
There was a small amount of artwork and photos that were saved by temporarily storing them on jared's computer (we're connected by a home network..) but everything else, including a lot of old art, a lot of music that I paid for, photos of my kids.... just seem to be gone.

Any ideas about that?  Anyone know any tricks?

I'm also looking for a good keystroke encryption software.  BlueGem seems to be the most popular, but when I tried their free trial, it kept freezing my keyboard and could only be fixed by a reboot (which was encredibly annoying when i was right in the middle of an email or message).  I dunno, after this whole worm thing, that one made me kinda nervous so i pulled it back off.  :P

any help is MUCH appreciated!

Meep! :ohnoes: Well, hopefully you'll figure it out. I've heard of ways to recover corrupted info off of drives or CDs. Looks like you already got some help from someone who appears to know far more about this sort of thing than I do though. I'll send positive thoughts/energy your way.

Make sure you get all the newest updates for your computer from the Microsoft site. You shouldn't have gotten the worm in the first place if you completely up-to-date since it exploited an old problem that Microsoft fixed in an update.

Yeah I'm actually not sure how this happened... because (so far as I knew) I WAS up to date.. had service pack 3 w/ like a million security updates.. full version of mcaffee running and also updates were current..
so i'm confused.
I guess I had a hole somewhere.

O.o Gosh, that's really weird then. I'd want to complain to Microsoft about that.
I hope your X-drive works again. I would try looking for the drivers for the X-drive online. if it doesn't work after you've installed the newest ones from the official website, then there's usually some sort of forum, or someone to contact if it doesn't work. I'd try going about that route. or if you're willing to open up your computer, I'd disconnect it, wait 10 seconds(if it isn't your hard drive or something) and then connect it again, and then retry the driver thing.
Good luck.

Can you run the CD on another computer? If that doesn't work the cd itself might be corrupted or damaged. I have a clean disc containing some very powerful recovery items that I will willingly send you through email in a winrar file. They're 100% legal and I got them from a teacher at my local college (he's certified in pretty much everything there is computer wise).

Hey, that would be exceptionally awesome and i would REALLY appreciate!

I have tried the cd's in another computer with no luck.. I'm so bummed. I know the information is there.. I mean.. they took like 5 min. each to burn, and when you look on the back you can see they've been written out to the edge.. they spin and the computer makes all it's little "i'm thinking" noises and stuff when you put them in.. but then after awhile, the pc just reads them as blank. ;_;
My email address is ladyhawk4him@yahoo.com but i think yahoo has a 10mg attachment limit? or is that only for me uploading? lol... wow i'm sounding real smart right now..
