What's your Learning Style?

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 11, 2010, 12:20 PM
I can't do a poll since I don't have a paid account, but hopefully this works out anyways. :P

(edit.. :iconuntamed-animal: just bought me a paid account! wowza!  thanks so much, you rock!!)

   1. Listening learners
   2. Seeing learners
   3. Touch / experience learners

It's simple really. Think about one of life's earliest lessons - often taught by our mothers: The Stove Can Burn You.

   1. Listening learners heard their mother, believed the information, and never touched a stove.
   2. Seeing learners watched their brother touch the stove, and never touched it.
   3. Experience learners touched the stove; but only once!

I am very visual.  In school, when studying for a spelling test, I stared at the words until I memorized them visually and could see them in my head later, and could read them back off, correctly.  In math, I had to write tiny illustrated story problems for all my equations before I understood them.  If i'm driving someplace new, I refuse to take directions from someone orally.. they MUST draw me a map.  I have to see it!

I always assumed I was so visual because of my artistic tendencies, and/or vice versa, but then.... not EVERYONE who's an artist is a visual learner, right?

So i want to hear from you guys!  Tell me how you learn and how you think that changes the way you do art, if at all.  I'm really curious about this topic and I'd love to know what you guys think.

thanks a bunch! :D

I'm all three, but I have a lot of trouble reproducing images in my head, which as a result is an extremely dim and vague place visually (trying to fix that lol). However I sometimes startle myself with sounds in my head while falling asleep, and can hear a any voice I want in my head read aloud whatever words I look at or think of if I want.

Im a mix of all three if i really want to /learn/ it thoroughly, but mainly if i read something it will stick in my brain, but i have to hear see and say it, then write it down, then walk around and say it before i really will /know it/.

putting thinks to song helps too

i find things less confusing when i do it but most of my memory is capturing images or 'video's' in my head, so im 2 & 3.

I'm a kinaesthetic learner... I think that's the word. I learn best if there is motion involved somewhere... I make action as I learn things, it helps me to remember. I'd really like to learn sign language as I think I'd pick it up really quickly.
I also have a photographic memory for words, really helps with spelling, esp in zoology when they insist on giving things 9 syllable names (sigh)

Ooh I took a test for this! ^^
I'm exactly equally visual and listener. I can't remember the percentages though (it had like 5 categories though).
Last place is definitely movement. I can remember anything by movement aside from how to get somewhere, but that also goes hand in hand with visual. XD

I'm 60% visual learner and 40% is listening learning, that explains why i need music to study and remember strange facts =p

Experience learner all the way! I just can't learn anything without trial and error. I used to be able to learn visually, but over time I've lost that skill. Now the only way I can usually learn how to do something is to do it.

I'm a visual learner. Although, I can learn using the 1 and 3, it's just harder. I do the same thing as you with spelling words. That's pretty much how I study for everything, by just staring at the page and remembering it.

I learn my school work by staring at it and that way I can learn it by wrote and 'see' the page in my head later. But I can listen to an audiobook and learn my favourite quotes from that after about 4 times through. If I watch a film I can memorise my favourite parts and quote them back after just one time. I think I'm a mixture XD I also have good muscle memory which is not touch bu the one which we were always told was number three instead: Movement. But movements don't help me learn anything else so I guess that doesn't count ^ ^
